GAFFNEY INDIANS NFL PLAYERS ( PART 1 SIDNEY RICE )

As most Gaffney Indian fans know Sidney Rice was a Superstar on the football field as he made spectacular catch after spectacular catch in leading the Indians to a 14 and 1 record and the 2003 4A Division 1 State Football Championship. Sidney Rice was also a Superstar on the basketball court, as he helped lead the Indians to two 4A State Basketball Championships in 2003 and 2004. The Indian hoopsters were a combined 54 and 2 during those two Championship seasons. After his decorated career at Gaffney High School, Sidney Rice signed to play college football for the South Carolina Gamecocks, where he started for two seasons, and he still holds numerous receiving records. After his sophomore season with the Gamecocks, Rice left Columbia for the NFL draft. The Minnesota Vikings made Sidney Rice their second round draft choice in the 2007 NFL draft. After some limited success his first two seasons, and battling the injury bug as well, Rice has become a major contributor to the Minnesota Vikings offense this season. Through the first seven games of this season, and a 6 and 1 start by the Vikings, Rice has 34 catches for 545 yards and two TDs. He has a 16.0 yards per catch average. Sidney Rice's NFL career got a major shot in the arm, when the Vikings signed future Hall of Famer Brett Favre. Rice has quickly become one of Brett Favre's favorite and most reliable receivers this NFL season. Football fans in Gaffney are not at all surprised by Rice's success at South Carolina and in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings as they saw first hand what a special athlete he was when he wore the uniform of the Tribe. So lets be proud and pull for Sidney Rice regardless of what NFL team you are a fan of, because he is one of us, A GAFFNEY INDIAN.

WEEK 9 FORT MILL GAME RECAP

The Gaffney Indians scalped the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets this past Friday night at The Reservation 41 to 14. The score was closer than the game actually was as the Indians scored on six straight possessions to build a 41 to 0 lead about half way through the 3rd quarter. QB D'Edward Burris had another good game as he ran for two scores and passed for three more. Senior RB Kenard Lipscomb had a 50 yard TD run early in the 2nd quarter that was a sprint to the end zone. The starting Gaffney defense played very well as they kept the Jackets off of the score board. Fort Mill scored two late TDs against the Gaffney subs to avoid the shut out and to make the score a little more respectable. The Indians are 7 and 2 overall and 3 and 0 in Region 3 4A play.

WEEK 10 GAFFNEY @ CLOVER PREVIEW..... The Indians travel to Clover to face the Blue Eagles and their powerful Wing-T offense this Friday night in a very big Region 3 4A game. Gaffney is 7 and 2 and 3 and 0 in the Region while Clover is 7 and 2 and 2 and 1 in Region play. Gaffney is tied at the top of the Region with Northwestern. Clover's only Region loss was to Northwestern a couple of weeks ago. Gaffney had trouble with Clover's offense last season as the Blue Eagles came to The Reservation and went home with the victory. The Gaffney defense has played much better the last three weeks, but that was against light competition. This week will tell the tell about the Indians defense. I look for a high scoring game and I see the Tribe finding a way to win the game.

Enjoy.
