THE 2009 FOOTBALL SEASON REVIEW

Welcome to my first post of my blog Tribe Blitz. You will get views, info and everything you would want to know about the GAFFNEY INDIANS. I will publish new post every week on Tuesdays. The first thing I want to blog about is a review of the 2009 football season.

WEEK 1 Gaffney @ Dorman..... The Indians squandered numerous scoring opportunities in the 1st half and trailed the Cavaliers 14 to 10 at the half. It was all Dorman in the 2nd half as they kept the ball and wore down the young Gaffney defense out scoring the Indians 28 to 7 to win the game 42 to 17. The Indians record ater Week 1 is 0 and 1.

WEEK 2 Gaffney @ Greenville..... The Indians came out not ready to play, as everything that could go wrong went wrong. The Indians trailed 23 to 0 before they scored their first points of the night. Gaffney trailed Greenville 23 to 7 at the half. The 2nd half started off just as bad as the Red Raiders intercepted a tipped pass and returned it for a TD and led 29 to 7. The Indians finally started getting some momentum as they ended the 3rd quarter down 29 to 17. The 4th quarter started with the Indians continuing their rally. They scored again to make it 29 to 25. The defense got another stop and the Indians went ahead for the first time at 32 to 29 with 2:12 left in the game. The Greenville offense, that had been held in check in the 2nd half, finally put together a drive and went back ahead 35 to 32 with 1:17 left in the game. Gaffney was not done as QB D'Edward Burris drove the Indians down the field and hit WR Quinshad Davis for the winning score from 3 yards out to secure an improbable comeback by the Indians. Gaffney won the game 39 to 35. The Indians record after Week 2 was 1 and 1.

WEEK 3 Union County @ Gaffney..... The home opener at The Reservation had the Indians, still with momentum from their come from behind victory the week before, defeating the Union County Yellow Jackets 31 to 0. Gaffney QB D'Edward Burris led the offense with 2 TD passes and rushed for over 100 yards. The young Gaffney defense stymied the Union County Wing-T offense for their first shutout of the season. The Indians record after Week 3 was 2 and 1.

WEEK 4 TL Hanna @ Gaffney..... The Indians used a powerful offensive display to over power the TL Hanna Yellow Jackets 54 to 26. QB D'Edward Burris had 320 yards total offense with 2 TD passes and 2 TD runs to lead the offense. The score was closer than the game really was as Hanna scored 20 points late against the 2nd and 3rd stringers of the Indians. The Indians record after Week 4 was 3 and 1.

WEEK 5 Gaffney @ Byrnes..... The young Indians went to Duncan to face the Byrnes Rebels and came apart at the seams as the Rebels embarrassed the Indians 60 to 7. This was the most lopsided loss for the Tribe in recent memory. Enough said about this game, lets move on. The Indians record after Week 5 was 3 and 2.

WEEK 6 Gaffney @ Spartanburg..... It was going to be interesting to see how the young Indians would react after the debacle at Byrnes the week before. The Indians passed the test as they bounced back with a 14 to 7 victory over their rivals the Spartanburg Vikings. The Indians had plenty of opportunities to put the Vikings away but did not do it. The Indians defense had two late defensive stands to preserve the victory. The Indians record after week 6 was 4 and 2.

WEEK 7 York @ Gaffney..... The Indians returned home to the friendly confines of The Reservation to open Region 3 play against the York Cougars. The Indians scored the last 48 points to rout the Cougars 55 to 7. The Indians record after Week 7 was 5 and 2.

WEEK 8 Gaffney @ Nation Ford..... The Indians got off to a sluggish start against the Falcons but started putting it together in the 2nd quarter for a 21 to 0 lead at the half. The Indians came out in the 2nd half to finish the job with a 31 to 7 win. Nation Ford was able to avoid the shut out scoring a TD with 1:13 left in the game. The Indians record after Week 8 is 6 and 2.

The Indians face a win less Fort Mill team at The Reservation for Homecoming Week 9 this Friday night. It should be another easy win for the Tribe!

Until Tuesday.
