The Tribe wrapped up their four game home stand in grand fashion Friday night, as they defeated Rock Hill and former Head Coach Joe Montgomery 28 to 3. The Indians have won 5 games in a row and their record is 6 and 2 overall 2 and 0 in Region 3 4A. The Indians go on the road this week, for the first time since September 10th, as they travel to Lancaster. Lets look at this week's game.
Gaffney @ Lancaster
The Lancaster Bruins and the Gaffney Indians have not met since the 2005 season, when the Indians defeated the Bruins 35 to 0. Lancaster comes into this game with a 4 and 4 overall record and 1 and 1 in Region 3. The Bruins have a young team, as they return 3 starters on offense and 6 starters on defense, from their team that went 7 and 5 last season.
The Bruins like to run the spread on offense and they have scored 183 points for a 22.9 points per game average. At times, they have been very impressive and other times they have shot themselves in the foot with turnovers. Their most impressive win on the season was a 17 to 7 win over Rock Hill.
The Lancaster defense has a little more experience, but they have been up and down. They have given up 161 points for a 20.1 per game average. They played very well against the powerful Northwestern offense, in the first half last week.
The Gaffney offense had another impressive performance last week, as their rushing attack continues to get better. The Tribe scored four TDs last week, all on the ground. They are beginning to get more and more balanced on offense. The Tribe has scored 216 points for a 27.0 points per game average. Tribe QB DeEdward Burris had another big game, as he continues to put up big numbers in his Senior season.
The Gaffney defense had a very good game last week, as they forced a couple of turnovers and held the Rock Hill Bearcats to only a field goal. They have given up 136 points for a 17.0 per game average. Quan Weeks and Jaquan Barnes had big games from their LB positions.
Keys to the game for Lancaster..... (1) Get off to a good start to build confidence. (2) Do not turn the football over. (3) Force some turnovers.
Keys to the game for Gaffney..... (1) Bring their winning attitude from home with them on the road. (2) Do not look past Lancaster, with Northwestern looming next week. (3) Play Gaffney Indians football.
Game Prediction..... This could be a trap game for the Indians. They have not played on the road since September 10th, at Union. They have the big game at Northwestern next week, that will be for the Region 3 Title. I see Lancaster keeping it close for awhile, but the Indians will pull away in the second half for the win..... Gaffney 34 Lancaster 17
You can catch the Gaffney @ Lancaster Recap on Saturday.
Until Next Time.
